A calm, safe space for your child to be heard. A space that's just yours, to say what's actually going on.
One-to-one counselling led by your child's pace, delivered by a qualified, enhanced-DBS-checked therapist. No pressure, no jargon — just support that fits your family. Whatever's going on — school, home, friends, how you're feeling — you don't have to explain it perfectly. I'll figure it out together with you, at your speed.
Support for the things young people actually come to me with
Every young person's reasons for coming are different. These are some of the most common.
Anxiety & worry
Racing thoughts, panic, OCD, phobias, emotionally-based school avoidance, recurring worries about school, family, or the future.
Low mood
Feeling flat, withdrawn, or like nothing's fun any more.
Bereavement & loss
Grief after losing someone or something important — a person, a pet, or even a way of life.
Family change
Separation, a new sibling, moving house — big shifts at home that unsettle things.
School & exam stress
Pressure to perform, friendship fallouts, or not wanting to go in at all.
Friendships & self-esteem
Feeling left out, unsure of themselves, or unsettled by who they're becoming.
ADHD & neurodivergence
Making sense of a diagnosis, feeling different to friends, or the exhaustion of coping all day at school.
Identity, sexuality & gender
A safe, non-judgemental space to think through questions about who you are — at your own pace, with no pressure to have it figured out.
Not every young person wants to sit and talk — and that's fine
The right approach depends on the child, not the other way round.
Talking therapy
Straightforward, one-to-one conversation.
Creative & play-based work
Drawing, sand tray, storytelling and games, giving people other ways to express what's hard to put into words.
Minecraft therapy
Sessions built around a world many young people already feel confident and safe in. Building, exploring and problem-solving together. So much more than a game.
A straightforward, unhurried process
There's no waiting list mystery and no pressure to commit before you're ready.

Weekly / Fortnightly sessions
50 minutes, ideally at the same time each week or fortnight, in person or online, at a pace your child sets.
Check-ins together
Regular reviews with you on how things are going, without breaking your child's trust.
Hi! I'm Sue
I'm a BACP Registered counsellor with 14 years' post-qualification experience supporting children and young people across Sheffield, South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire. I've worked as a therapist in primary and secondary schools plus sixth form — so I understand how the pressures on a young person shift as they grow.
I work three days a week within a local CAMHS service, spend a day as a school counsellor in a primary school and a further day in private practice, so this isn't abstract for me — I see, week to week, what actually helps. I believe young people are the experts in their own lives; my job is to listen properly, go at their pace, and help them find the answers that work for them.
I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent children and young people, including autistic and ADHD young people. I try to work to suit each individual — whether that means less eye contact, more movement, fidget tools, working through play, creativity or Minecraft instead of conversation. I have ADHD myself, which shapes a lot of how I understand and adapt sessions — I know first-hand what it's like when your brain just works differently to the people around you.
And last, but by no means least, my favourite food is chips and gravy! I have a Bichon Frise, called Harvey who often comes with me to sessions, and am an avid, but not very skilled, pickleball player!
Whichever one of these is you
What actually happens in a session
- You don't have to talk straight away. Some sessions are drawing, or just sitting with things — whatever helps you think.
- It's private. What you say stays between you and me. The only time I'd need to tell someone else is if I'm seriously worried about your safety or somebody else's — and I'd always try to tell you first, and why.
- You can stop, pause, or change your mind. This is your space, not something being done to you.
- Nothing you say will shock me. I've heard a lot, and I'm not here to judge or lecture.
- If you're autistic, have ADHD, or just think differently, that's completely fine here — I can work in whatever way suits you, whether that's less eye contact, moving around, fidgeting, or working through Minecraft instead of talking.
What you need to know before you start
- Consent. I'll talk through what's needed based on your child's age and situation — this is different for everyone, and I'll explain it clearly before anything begins.
- Confidentiality. Sessions are your child's space. I'll share general themes and progress with you, but not word-for-word content, unless there's a safeguarding concern.
- Fees. £70 per session, payable in advance.
- Availability. Private practice sessions run on Saturdays.
- Format. In person in Sheffield or online via video call — whichever suits your child best.
Safeguarding & confidentiality
Keeping children and young people safe comes before everything else in this practice. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, work to BACP's Ethical Framework, and have monthly clinical supervision. A full safeguarding policy is available on request — just ask when you get in touch.
Still wondering about something?
How do I know if counselling will actually help?
In all honesty, it's hard to know in advance. Research has shown that having a good connection with the counsellor is the most important factor in sessions being helpful. That's why I suggest an initial session so both you and your child can see if I'm the "right fit" for you. Booking this session brings no obligation to continue after, and I'll be honest if it seems like a different kind of support would suit your child better.
Will you tell me what my child says in sessions?
Not the detail — trust between your child and myself is the foundation of the work. I'll update you on general themes and how things are going, and I'll always contact you directly if I have any safeguarding concerns.
What if my child doesn't want to talk?
That's completely normal, especially early on. Sessions can include drawing, games, or quiet space — talking often comes once trust builds, not before. However, if your child really doesn't want to come or engage, then it would be unethical for me to work with them.
Do you work with neurodivergent children and young people?
Yes — this is a particular interest of mine, including autistic and ADHD children and young people. Sessions are adapted to suit how each young person communicates and processes best. I don't expect anyone to fit a standard talking-therapy format.
What age groups do you work with?
Children and young people aged 8 to 16, with some leeway either side.
What is Minecraft therapy?
This is a way of working therapeutically using Minecraft as the shared safe space. We can work either at the young person's direction or through some set activities in the game. Please note, Minecraft therapy is not an official Minecraft product and is not approved or associated with Mojang or Minecraft.
Where do sessions take place?
In person in Sheffield (13B Rustlings Road, S11 7AA), or online by video call if that's easier for your family.
